Common Chiropractic Questions

If you’ve never been to a chiropractor before, it’s normal to have questions.
At Mission Chiropractic Works in South Pasadena, we want you to feel comfortable
and confident before your first visit.

Is it normal to feel nervous about seeing a chiropractor?

Yes, and you’re not alone. Many people feel unsure before their first visit,
especially because of the sounds joints can make during an adjustment.

Those “popping” sounds are simply gas being released from the joints. Nothing is breaking
or cracking. Most patients get used to it quickly, often within their first visit or two.

As for discomfort, adjustments are typically not painful. Some people may feel mild soreness,
similar to what you’d experience after a workout, but it fades quickly and is usually followed
by noticeable relief.

Will I need ongoing chiropractic care?

That depends on your goals. If you’re dealing with a straightforward issue and just want to get
out of pain, many patients see improvement within 4 to 6 visits.

For more complex or long-standing problems, a longer treatment plan may be recommended to address
underlying structural issues and help prevent the problem from returning.

Why see a chiropractor instead of a medical doctor for neck or back pain?

Chiropractors specialize in musculoskeletal conditions, especially neck and back pain. These are
the most common issues we treat every day.

While medical doctors often rely on medication to manage pain, chiropractic care focuses on improving
movement and addressing the root cause of the issue. This allows many patients to reduce or avoid
long-term reliance on medication.

What if I’ve been told I need surgery?

In many cases, surgery should be considered a last resort. It is more invasive, costly, and requires
a longer recovery period compared to conservative treatments.

Chiropractic care can often help reduce pain and improve function enough to delay or even avoid surgery.
Treatments like spinal adjustments, soft tissue therapy, and disc decompression can be highly effective
for certain conditions.
