Rehabilitation

No chiropractic treatment program is complete without a physical rehabilitation component.

Chiropractic adjustments are very effective at decreasing joint pain and increasing range of motion. Once pain diminishes to a manageable level, however, physical rehabilitation is important for preventing future pain and dysfunction.

At Mission Chiropractic Works, our physical rehabilitation program aims to:

  • Develop core stability
  • Improve balance
  • Improve posture

Core stability refers to the muscular control of the low back and pelvis. If you have ever bent from the waist to pick up an object and have felt your spine “buckle,” then it is likely that you do not have sufficient core and spinal stability. Developing such stability is very important to preventing re-injury.

Often, when people try to strengthen their core, they focus only on building their abdominal muscles. However, adequate strength and endurance of the lower back muscles is also essential to core stability.

At Mission Chiropractic Works, once your pain is at a manageable level, we will assess your core and spinal stability. If necessary, we will teach you targeted stability exercises that are specific to your area of weakness. Integration of these exercises into your life will go a long way toward preventing future injury.

Balance is the ability of your muscles and nervous system to coordinate with each other to prevent falling. Imagine you are stepping off a curb and start to stumble; in a split second, hundreds of your muscles and nerves send and receive signals from your brain to prevent you from falling.

This complicated cascade of signals can be improved through physical rehabilitation. Indeed, Mission Chiropractic Works integrates simple—yet very important—balance-building exercises into every patient’s care.

Posture

One of Mission Chiropractic Works’ specialties is permanently improving patients’ posture. We achieve this by incorporating chiropractic adjustments, exercises, and ergonomic education into patient care.

Abnormal posture often underlies chronic pain conditions such as back pain, neck pain, and headaches. Moreover, poor posture places undue stress on the spine and can accelerate degenerative processes leading to arthritis, pain, and stiffness.
